Ball valves are one of the essential apparatus in many different industries such as chemical, water, oil, pharmaceutical, and among others. If you have worked in one of these manufacturing industries, you probably know that ball valves are very useful when it comes to fluid control in any piping system.   Like many other kinds of valves, a ball valve is basically used to direct, start, stop, and mix the temperature, pressure, and flow of a liquid or gas in a pipeline. The valve has a ball-like closure unit having a port through the center referred to as a bore. The fluid can only flow when the bore is in an open position. This is when it’s aligned or facing in the same direction as the pipe. When rotated in a quarter turn, that is, 90 degrees, the bore closes the valve and fluid is not allowed to flow through the pipe. This is because it becomes perpendicular to the path of flow.   These valves are known to be very versatile in that they can be used in a great many applications. They’re both ideal for simple services such as solvents, water, natural gas and acids and also dangerous and more difficult services such as ethylene, hydrogen peroxide, gaseous oxygen, and methane.

Types of Ball Valves   Ball valves come in many different kinds. The most common types include the following.
 •  Trunnion Mounted Ball-Valve – These kinds come with a ball with an extra pin (an anchoring pin) that moves about to control the movement of fluids. They are ideal for high pressure and very large valves.
•  Floating Ball-Valve – These valves have a ball that is free-floating and which moves depending on the movement of fluid flow. Mostly it moves in response to fluid pressure, especially when in a closed position.
•  Full Bore Ball-Valve – These kinds are characterized by the bore having a similar diameter as that of the piping systems that they’re linked to. They provide an unrestricted flow of the fluid and yields a small amount of friction loss.
 •  Rising Stem Ball-Valve – These ones work based on tilt-and-turn operations. The valves work in such a way that they eliminate the most common causes of localized high-velocity and valve-failure.   •  Reduced Bore Ball-Valve – The port or bore comes with a small size compared to the pipeline they are linked to. So they tend to have a smaller area of flow than the connected pipeline.
 •  V Port Ball-Valve – The port is V-shaped as the name suggests and control of flow is more controlled.

Advantages of Ball Valves
•  Affordability – They’re less expensive compared to most other products doing with similar functionality.
•  Ease of Use – They’re easy and quick to install and use.
•  Efficiency – Ball valves are known to be one of the most efficient devices. They work without needing any kind of lubrication and provides bubble-tight-seal with minimum torque.
 •  Durability – They are long-lasting and can give a great many years of dependable service.
•  Strong – They’re one of the strongest devices since they can regulate and maintain fluids of high volume and high pressure.
•  Simple to Repair – The interior can easily be accessed when on needs repair.
•  Versatile – Suitable for numerous industrial uses when it comes to regulation of fluid flow.
